I Love this song, its so good. Its one of my favorite songs, BUT i like the original version better, no offence to GNR their a great band.

The song is about a law officer who did what he had to do and is having a hard time living with it. How did I get that? The song was written by Bob Dylan for a movie he played in sometime around 1974 called "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid". The song is from Garrett's point of view.
