If you'll be my star
I'll be your sky
You can hide underneath me and come out at night
When I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

And you can sky-rocket away from me
And never come back if you find another galaxy
Far from here with more room to fly
Just leave me your stardust to remember you by

If you be my boat
I'll be your sea
The depth of pure blue just to probe curiosity
Ebbing and flowing and pushed by a breeze
I live to make you free
I live to make you free

But you can set sail to the west if you want to
And past the horizon till I can't even see you
Far from here where the beaches are wide
Just leave me your wake to remember you by

If you'll be my star
I'll be your sky
You can hide underneath me and come out at night
When I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

But you can sky-rocket away from me
And never come back if you find another galaxy
Far from here with more room to fly
Just leave me your stardust to remember you by
Stardust to remember you by

I believe this is a beautiful song about selfless love. Although she loves this person very deeply, she is willing to let them go if it becomes clear they will be happier elsewhere. It is about doing what is best for the one you love and considering their happiness before your own.

I honestly don't believe this is a love song. I think it can be, but I believe that this song is a parent singing to her child about how the only real reason they're there is to guide their child through life, and once that child has grown, will be ready to let them go.

This song always makes me think how i interpret it. Sometimes when i'm sad ill get the hurt of loveing someone, or my friends how ill do anything for them, because i love them and care for them so much, yet in return sometimes their not their for me... Sense in high school everyone seems to change.. But me :(

To me this song means this:
a girl is in true love with a boy. This boy might not love her back, maybe he does. The girl is somewhat saying, i love you so much, so much i'll let you go. Maybe you'll come back or go to another 'galexy' or to the 'west'. She just wants this boy she loves to be as happy as he can be even if she may not be all that happy. She just wants to remember him and try to see? Him as much as possible. -
it may sound cheesy and corny but thats my meaning to boats and birds.

What i got out of it is, a person is thinking of a friend who is leaving to travel somewhere far. "If you'll be my star, I'll be your sky." She is always going to be with him wherever that person travels to and is always looking over that person, basically she is always with that person no matter where that person goes, such as being that person's sky.
    Probably doesn't make sense.
But thats just my opinion, im probably wrong.
