By Graham Nash [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/graham_nash/simple_man.html ]
I am a simple man
So I sing a simple song
Never been so much in love
And never hurt so bad at the same time.
I am a simple man
And I play a simple tune
I wish that I could see you once again
Across the room like the first time.
I just want to hold you I don't want to hold you down
I hear what you're saying and you're spinning my head around
And I can't make it alone.
The ending of the tale
Is the singing of the song
Make me proud to be your man only you can make me strong
Like the last time.
I just want to hold you I don't want to hold you down
I hear what you're saying and you're spinning my head around
And I can't make it alone.

Simple man is a song about love and acceptance. Nash wants the most important person in his life to see him as uncomplicated and true. True to the most basic type of love possible. He thinks that at one time in the relationship he may have had that, but it appears it may also have been one sided. He actually asks for the other person he is involved with to come to his level and take the relationship back to previous times which nash feels is when they both connected at the same level. He knows the other person is becoming distant to his needs to work the relationship out.
