Gotye – Wonder Why You Want Her lyrics

Lost
In her face,
Caught
On the thought of a taste,
Sold
On the fantasy,
Bought,
For a price you can have a piece

Fresh
From the colour press,
The flesh
Of today's princess,
Spread
From end to end,
Blue eyes
And perfect skin
Invite everyone in.

Do you ever wonder why you want her?
Does it even matter you can't have her?
Even if you tried to it wouldn't satisfy you
Trying to possess her can only depress you

Do you ever wonder why you want her?
Does it even matter you could never have her?
Even if you tried to it would never satisfy you
You'll only want her stronger,
Long for longer

I think he is trying to fall for a girl that is already taken, whether by another man or by the price of society. We want what we can't have and when it is something so desireable, unreachable maybe, we want it more. We will never be satisified because in our minds, we build up this fantasy of perfection only to be let down by the reality. Have you ever looked at a victoria's secret magazine and wished that you could be with one of those women? They are made to look perfect but I can assure you, being human, we are made imperfect.
