In a little while from now,
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promised myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower,
And climbing to the top,
Will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to who
Ever what it's like when your shattered
Left standing in the lurch, at a church
Where people saying,
"My God that's tough, she stood him up!
No point in us remaining.
We may as well go home."
As I did on my own,
Alone again, naturally [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/gilbert_osullivan/alone_again_naturally.html ]
To think that only yesterday,
I was cheerful, bright and gay,
Looking forward to, but who wouldn't do,
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down,
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch,
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt,
Talk about God and His mercy
For if He really does exist
Why did He desert me
In my hour of need?
I truly am indeed,
Alone again, naturally
It seems to me that
There are more hearts
Broken in the world
That can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?
(instrumental break)
Alone again, naturally
Now looking back over the years,
And what ever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old,
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand, why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart
So badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

I wonder if he really got left at the alter. I spent my honeymoon alone. Husband left me and my daughter in the car. Said he would be right back. Never came back. Alone again naturally

Finally realized that god does not exist. That the bible is written by man for man.

Kicked out of my house by my parents at 15, divorced by 22, relationship after relationship has come and gone. This song reminds me that no matter how happy we are at times in our life, we will always end up alone again naturally

We are all responsible for ourselves and when it comes down to it, alone. While it sounds very sad, in some ways it is comforting

He emphasizes the fact that most people do not want to hear. If there is a god, he/she is not omnibenevolent, omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient and eternal and does not interface with creations. God does not take sides in football games, god does not send natural disasters as a "test" of our character and there are no such things as miracles

It's a depressing song. I used to sing it a lot as a kid never knew or paid attention to the lyrcis. We can't really blame god for our troubles as we bring them about ourselves by bringing sin into the world and he did give us a way out through his son. Truly a sad song to sing when you are depressed though.
