Gerry Rafferty – Over My Head lyrics

We sat up talking right on through the night
And the day had just begun
Then you said let's take a walk outside
And watch the rising of the sun.

And over my head there was so much to see in the sky
Just that feeling of being alive
Don't let it go, don't let it slip away.

We stood around until the sky was clear
It was time for you to go
I watched your figure slowly disappear
As you walked off down the road.

And over my head there was so much to see in the sky
Just that feeling of being alive
Don't let it go, don't let it slip away.

Don't let it go, don't let it slip away
Don't let it go, don't let it slip away.

A guy and a lady are deep in emotional discussion, he, trying to convince her that he loves her, but she, not loving him the same way! Of course this futile talk goes through the night and as the sun begins to rise on a new day and fresh life, she gets ready to leave. She wants to go outside as the first step to her departure. In his emotional state he becomes acutely aware of everything going on around him, especially all the life up in the sky, as he looks into the vastness of its space, birds circling overhead, and he laments losing the girl, trying to appeal to her one last time, not to let love disappear. As she leaves, he stands alone, absorbing the life activity above his head very aware of having lost at love, the picture above his head and the feeling associated with it indelibly etched in his mind, still wishing she had not left, lamenting his lost love.
