When the last, breath of life
Is gone from, my body
And my lips, are as cold as the sea
When my friends gather 'round
For my farewell party
Won't you, pretend you love me
There will be flowers from those
Who cry, when I'm gone
And leave you in this, world alone
I know you'll have fun
At my farewell party
I know, you'll be glad, when I'm gone
Don't be mad at me, for wanting to keep you
Till my life on this old world is through
You'll be free at the end of my farewell party
But I'll go away loving you
There will be flowers from those
Who cry, when I'm gone
And leave you in this, world alone
I know you'll have fun
At my farewell party
I know, you'll be glad, when I'm gone
Oh, I know you'll be glad when I'm gone

I think it's about a woman that is mean to a man and he has this song played at his funeral . So she can have something to think about when he's gone.thats why the song has you'll be glad when im gone . Actually there is someone i know that sounds a lot like the meaning of this song .

The song in general is about a man who's living in what seems to be a loveless relationship with his wife. He does not want to live without her so he is asking her to stay until he dies and at least act like she loves him at his funeral. He lets her know that he knows she'll be glad to be rid of him.

Some people just can't apologize for wrongs done to an ex-wife/lover. This song played at a funeral is an apology to the wronged person who would never hear it otherwise. It would only have a heartfelt meaning for the wronged ex-wife, without allowing everyone in attendance to understand the intent.
