[Florence]
You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between
What I thought and what I said

You are the night time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over, you will start
You're my head, you're my heart

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'll do anything to make you stay

No light, no light
(No light)
Tell me what you want me to say

Through the crowd eyes crying out at me
In your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me, I need to make it right

You want a revelation,
You want to get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation, some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'll do anything to make you stay

No light, no light
(No light)
Tell me what you want me to say

Would you leave me,
If I told you what I've done?
And would you leave me,
If I told you what I've become?

'Cause it's so easy,
To say it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love,
To say it to you, my love

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'll do anything to make you stay

No light, no light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

You want a revelation
You want to get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation, some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

You want a revelation
You want to get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation, some kind of resolution
Tell me what you want me to say

It s a song about a relantion about to sink. Their relation has problem, problems caused by her. She loves him to much and that leads to a sort of insecurity wich causes her to to do some unforgiveble acts. She is afraid he might leave her, and tries to do anything to keep him by her side. It s all from her point of view. Things have changed betwen them and she tries to make them. He sees the change and tries to understander her. That s way he seeks for a revelation, and tries to make things right in his own way.

I felt the song was a spiritual song, most of their music seems to be about good vs. Evil and fighting evil to be good. I agree with the video it was dead on for me.

The song and the video seem to tell 2 different stories: 1. The song seems to be about two lovers in an argument about their relationship and the man is about to end it.

    2. The video elevates the song into a struggle between good and evil, and she is under spiritual attack, with god forgiving and saving her. Notice the fall in the church takes her directly in front of the cross as she then falls into the hands of the body of christ.

Taken together, yes she did something to harm the relationship, but she is under spiritual attack and this is not seen or understood by the man who is not in the video (it does not really matter what wrong she committed)- for there is no light in either of his eyes "no light, no light" she looks for it to have a soul and spiritual connection with her lover, and as he cannot save her she turns to god, begs forgiveness and is saved. After all, who else ever could?

The irony here is that people who no nothing of salvation, and little about human relationships and frailty, are condemning the video. Seeing the issue in black vs white, they miss the richness of color used to explain the conflict between good and evil(spiritual warfare), between lovers, and the reconciling with god who saves. I also do not believe this to be sectarian per se.

This video and song are highly captivating and if i were florence and the machine, i would be as proud of it as a brand and identity, as i know rush is proud of 2112 as a major brand identity for them. Florence has a wonderful voice, is very beautiful, and the whole band is a talent not to be missed.

The song stands on its merits as does the video- but i am glad they made the video- it adds so much. To call it racist is to condemn salvation.

Just a note: isn't the lyric "you can't choose what *stains* and what fades away", not "you can't choose what stays and what fades away"; and "when it's over, your start", not "when it's over, you will start"; and "it's so hard to say it to you, alooone"?

I think the song is about a singer, and there's one face in her audience that she's in love with, but can't find the courage to say to him alone; she can only sing the truth to the whole audience. And in the light of day, she knows that he has no idea that the singer up on the stage is in love with *him*.

I usually sing it and think about a recent break up... She had blue eyes
and the "it's a conversation that i just can't heart tonight" lyric seals that perception of the song in for me...
