I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms

And is it worth the wait
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand
Protecting both your heart and mine?

Who is the betrayer?
Who's the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn't make a sound

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
So heavy in your arms

This will be my last confession
I love you never felt like any blessing
(Ohhhh)
Whispering like it's a secret
Only to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart

Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown

I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he had me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground

I'm so heavy, heavy in your arms.

Heavy, I'm so heavy in your arms.

I think that she was in a deep depression and was thinking of ending her life because of all of the pain she has gone through. And then she meets someone right when she's on the verge of letting go of this world. And he is wonderful and fulfills everything she looks for in a lover, but he cannot drag her out of the depression. The past keeps haunting her. She feels like her heart is heavy and she knows that no one can fill the void that is in her chest. She feels awful for pulling him into the darkness with her. She wants so badly to let go of the pain and to live a happy life with him, but her depression will not let her. They may have happy moments, but for the most part she drags him down. She doesn't want to, she wants nothing but the best for him. She feels like she's trapped him into her depression and part of her feels like she should let him go because she's too much of a burden. And the other part feels like she should hold onto him because she loves him. But ultimately, she wants nothing more than for him to be happy. Does she think that he would be happier without the burden of her heavy heart? She's torn because she wants to be with him so desparately but she wants his happiness above all else. And if she left him, the weight of her heavy heart would at least be lifted from him.

I think she means that she is hard to love because of things maybe in the past that have made her scared to love anyone. And that is a heavy burden on someone who does love her, but she held on tight to him because she loved him back, but was scared to truly show him how much she loved him because of her past. So he eventually was tired of not getting anywhere with her and he couldn't wait for her any longer to over come her fears so he left her, therefore he "took [her] to the river and slowly let [her] drown". She really, really loved him and her love had "concrete feet" so she sank, and the "iron ball" was wrapped around her once lover so he sank with her, or more like she pulled him under and made him sink. But it wasn't her fault, she just loved too deeply. And then in the next verses, she has recovered and is waiting for "the one", her true love, and waiting forever. When she finally finds him, he's "strong enough to stand, protecting both [his] heart and [hers]". Then she think's he's too good to be true so she wonders what is his secret or flaw ("who is the betrayer, who's the killer in the crowd"), but she can't find anything wrong with him and so they fall in love with each other but she still is scared and what happened last time starts to happen again but this time as they are "drowning" she whispers "i love you. " ("this will be my last confession, i love you never felt like any blessing") and suddenly, they aren't "drowning" anymore. He is carrying her and he will never let her go, no matter how heavy.

I think too that this song is referring to depression. She was with someone who supported her and tried to make her happy, but her deep depression made her "heavy" and started dragging him into darkness; she realized this and felt incredibly guilty about that, but they both went on (especially him) thinking that they could sort that out.
But then things kept getting worse and she, seeing him so weighed down, decided to let him go, asking him "Are you strong enough to stand/Protecting both your heart and mine?"
However, she still felt like she was drowning, because she loves him so much (so much that she doesn't care about herself and wants him only to be happy)
I also think that, after that, she is planning to take her own life, in fact she says "This will be my last confession"
In the end (maybe while leaving this world??) she remembers how wonderful he was with and how he really tried to make it work -this doesn't have a happy ending.

She's trying to hold in to the lover if her life. He's not sure if he wants to be with her.. So she is hanging on for dear life.
