A fallen star,
Fell from your heart,
And landed in my eyes,

I screamed aloud,
As it tore through them,
And now it's left me blind,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in this twilight,
In the shadow of your heart,

And in the dark,
I can hear your heartbeat, I try to find the sound,
But then it stopped,
And I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, No day,
I'm always in this twlight,
In the shadow of your heart,

Ooooh (x8)

I took the stars from my eyes,
And then I made a map,
I knew that some how,
I could find my way back,

Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too,
So I stayed in the darkness with you,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in the twilight,
In the shadow of your heart,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark, (you left me in the dark)

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in this twlight,
In the shadow of your heart,

Ooooh (x8)

Cosmic love portrays the ethereality of love and how one is dependent on his lover, like how the moon reflects sunlight radiated from the sun...

Hmm i gues i saw someting else in this than everyone else. I kind of thought that she fell in love with someone so bright and beautiful that she fell in love so painfully and completely that she was blind to everything else - not even the stars and the moon could compare. For a while she entertained the idea and hope they could be together but gave up and fell in to depression. But eventually she found her own inner brightness and decided to try to be with the other person - but when she looked she found that the other person was in the same darkness as her, so the darkness that was once lonely became a kind of peaceful comfort (like the love you feel after a long time, when you still love someone but you're constant and happy) and they stayed there together. So i never thought this song was about betrayal or grief, but about how powerful and painful and beautiful falling in love can be.

I think yes, her & her partner were very much in luv & then he did something 2 devastate her..the "falling" star that made her scream, ripped, left her blind. Then she felt his love leave her and left her alone, betrayal. "I made a map" eludes that she found her personal strength to bounce back & just as she was going 2 emerge from his grasp..she hears him again, & oh no! decides to stay w/ him in his "darkness", maybe drug addiction or depression or just being in love w/ the wrong person. the one who is so bad for you...but you cant help it..u stay. So heart achingly beautiful

This is such a beautiful song i keep coming back to. I'm sure so many meanings can be taken from it, that is part of the magic of Florence & the Machine. But the key is in the title. I think you would have to have seen the visions she sees to understand the initiation she speaks of. Love is just the beginning.

This love came upon her suddenly and intensely. When she was with him she felt out of this world, their souls were completely intertwined. He left her but the feelings were so ingrained into her core that she couldn't forget him. She feels like she's in a dream state constantly, living in the powerful aftermath. She makes up her mind to find her way back to sanity and finds that he feels the same. They may not be able to be together but they find comfort in knowing that their love for each other is the truest kind.
