The Wife, The Kids, And The White Picket Fence lyrics

Lyrics

Fair To Midland The Wife, The Kids, And The White Picket Fence lyrics

Mail order brides, turtlenecks, and trophy wives,
Had the ways and means to breach,
The borders of easy street,

And to blend right in,
We all surrounded them in a white picket fence,
Now both ends meet,

Sufficed to say there's a time and a place,
So I wait,
For the tug-of-war and who you'll pull for,
While between you and me from point A to point B is a fine line,
That burns at both our good ends,
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/f/fair_to_midland/the_wife_the_kids_and_the_white_picket_fence.html ]
Two peas in a pod, a battleaxe, and a bastard child,
Took one step more and went straight to the source,
And to blend right in,
They opened fire with their rain checks spent to make ends meet,

Sufficed to say there's a time and a place,
So I wait,
For the tug-of-war and who you'll pull for,
While between you and me from point A to point B is a fine line,
That burns at both our good ends,

Go on, paint the whole town red,
I'd rather follow who cleans up the mess,
And so I wait,

Sufficed to say there's a time and a place,
So I wait,
For the tug-of-war and who you'll pull for,
While between you and me from point A to point B is a fine line,
That burns at both our good ends.

Its about a guy that likes mail order brides so much that he has a tug-of-war with a$$ beads. One set in his tush and the other in steve urkel's tush. The white picket fence symbolizes how pissed off harriet is that she caught urkel and carl playing in an inappeopriate manor. Then they kiss each others genatalia

This song is a critique of the american marriage system. We marry "mail-order brides," or "trophy wives," so that others around us will think more highly of us; in other words, instead of marrying for love, we seek the approval of others - social acceptance. The moral issue here, of course, is what such perpetual transgression and infidelity can lead to - "bastard children," idolatry (spending money on pointless things), etc. We glorify these people because, in truth, the whole thing is a paradox - we add to the problem because we give these false marriages our attention, and our approval. We worship television shows like "the bachelor," and we worship celebrities who spit on the true meaning of love and marriage. The vocalist's proclamation, "go on, paint the whole town red, i'd rather follow who cleans up the mess" is clearly a statement of hope, that there's something - someone - better out there worth waiting for, someone who puts in the extra effort to prove she cares.

What i got from it is that he's talking about 2 different sets of people. A. One guy that has the money and job and what not to live his life on easy street so he gets a trophy and what do we do? We surround him in a white picket fence meaning that we accept that as right. Then b. The other guy has a child out of wedlock but is in love with the woman (hence "2 peas in a pod") but we deem that as wrong. "but between you and me from point a to point b is a fine like that burns at both our good ends. " their both equally wrong so why does society accept one and not the other?

The real meaning is a guy wanting to get married just to fit into the world and the white picket fence is sum kinda symbolization for what is boxing him in. Then its just like the scheetle guy said which is what it actually means, but i like the fender dude's explaination better lol

The song is about the pros/cons of wanting to get married, or not because of having a child out of wedlock.
