Danny Boy lyrics

Eva Cassidy Danny Boy lyrics

Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
From glen to glen and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling.
'Tis you, 'tis you must go, and I must bide.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/eva_cassidy/danny_boy.html ]
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow.
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow.
Oh Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, I love you so.

But when ye come and all the flowers are dying,
And I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Go out and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.

And I will hear tho' soft your tread above me,
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be.
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me,
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me.

This song is so powerful and beautiful. It evokes so many memories of a son going off to war and his father realising that he will not be living when he returns. On a personal note 'danny boy' will always mean so much to the mcmahon family having lost an older brother, who was a true paradox,at the same time complex, unique, creative and who never did things by halves. We will miss you kieran xxx

This isn't complicated and it's not about a man going to war. It about the irish potato famine. She's letting him to leave to find a better life but to come back at some point and find her grave and say and ave for her. Nothing to do with war, it's about survival.

It is a song about a young man leaving home, leaving behind his parents, who fear that they may never see him again.

A mother, from the grave expresses to her son how much she truly loves him. Much more than he is even able to understand. Even in death, she will wait for him, for his love, for her, as a mother her love is unconditional
