Four years old with my back to the door,
All I could hear was the family war,
Your selfish hands always expecting more,
Am I your child,
Or just a charity ward

You have a hollowed out heart
But it's heavy in your chest
I try so hard to fight it but it's hopeless,
Hopeless (Hopeless)
You're hopeless

Oh, father
Please, father
I'd love to leave you alone
But I can't let you go
Oh, father
Please, father
Put the bottle down
For the love of a daughter

It's been five years since we've spoken last
And you can't take back what we never had
Oh, I can be manipulated only so many times
(So many times)
Before even "I love you"
(Before I love you)
Starts to sound like a lie

You have a hollowed out heart
But it's heavy in your chest
I try so hard to fight it
But it's hopeless, (hopeless)
You're hopeless

Oh, father
Please, father
I'd love to leave you alone
But I can't let you go
Oh, father
Please, father
Put the bottle down
For the love of a daughter

Don't you remember I'm your baby girl?
How could you push me out of your world?
Lied to your flesh and your blood
Put your hands on the ones that you swore you love

Don't you remember I'm your baby girl?
How could you throw me right out of your world?
So young when the pain had begun
Now forever afraid of being loved

Oh, father
Please, father
I'd love to leave you alone
But I can't let you go
Oh, father
Please, father
Oh, father
Please, father
Put the bottle down
For the love of a daughter

For the love of a daughter

Demi lovato wrote this song about her father, he was an alcholic who abused her, her sister and her mother then left home when she was 5, she wrote this song as a way of dealing with her feelings of the situation. She originally wanted to put this song on her album "here we go again" however because she was with disney at the time they thought the younger audience she had would not be able to understand the meaning of the song. Now that she has left disney she felt it was time to put this song on her album "unbroken" as it is a true reflection of all the things she has been through and like she said in an interview it is almost like a diary.

It's about her relationship about her father. Or basically just about her father. I could relate to this song because I went/going through it. My dad left me, my 2 sisters and my mom for another girl and just wanted to be. Free he said. I can't talk to him because I won't know how i'll react. Sad, angry, happy, etc. But it's getting to the point where he said I love you and I'm thinking maybe all he said to me these past years were lies. Including that word. Other than that, demi, you have guts to write this song and put it on your album. You can hear your voice getting emotionally through out the whole song. Bye.

This song helped me to understand why I am bad for my father. He left when I was 6. I remember I cried a lot, but with time. I figure it out that I don't need him. I just need a father, but my father is not him. A father care about his daughter and his family, but he. He cared about himself. Just spoent our money and cheaded my mother. I hate him and I don't him anymore.

I think this song is very touching because its about a father that drinks and gets drunk and I can relate to that and so can my best friend and I hope that this happens to nobody its to rough and tough and this song is a daughter searching for love from her dad and he is to busy drinking and satisfying himself and not caring for anyone else please if you are hurting don't worry it will be ok if your going through what this song is talking about don't worry your not alone just go and run to a friends house and just try not to think about it because you have friends and teachers and everyone surrounding you that have your back all you have to do is tell them and they will help you fix it your not alone :)

This song is so sad! It made me cry the first time I heard it. It's about her nonexistent relationship with her father, who left when she was only about three. I can't believe that "even 'i love you' sounds like a lie. " if I were her, I would probably be crying by the end of the song. You can hear her getting emotional a little throughout the whole song. I think she was really brave to write this song. I love demi. She is so strong! She is my inspiration!. Bye.
