Friday night I'm going nowhere
All the lights are changing green to red
Turning over tv stations
Situations running through my head
Well looking back through time
You know it's clear that I've been blind
I've been a fool
To open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule

Saturday I'm running wild
And all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I'm pushing
Chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here
You know I'm seeing it so clear
I've been afraid
Show you how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I've made

If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, Babylon, Babylon

Sunday all the lights of London
Shining, Sky is fading red to blue
I'm kicking through the Autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I'm feeling so alone
I can't believe
Climbing on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
In front of me

If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, Babylon, Babylon, Babylon, Babylon

Babylon is really babble-on, as in "i don't really know what to say at this part of the song, so i will just babble-on".
I really wish I knew the real meaning of babylon. It's one of my all time favorites. Especially when performed by a guy named gill torres who performs weekly at luau larry's on catalina island (off the coast of long beach, ca). David gray should hear him sing it. No one does is better!

So, this one is about regret over acting like a jerk, full of jealousy, etc. That caused a break up (green - go to red - stop). Then later, after getting meds (perhaps for bipolar disorder) shown through "chemicals running through his bloodstream" he is now thinking clearly (red to green) but now wishing the girl was there to experience it with him but unable to tell her. Finally, in the last verse, she shows up on the doorstep at the end of a great evening in london town!

I have tried to reseach babylon and found it is both a mythical and real place that is beautiful but elusive. David grey is my new favorite artist, ranking up there with eric clapton, quincy jones and paul simon. I am captivated by david, both his voice and music. I feel like he is telling me a story of longing and hoping for that magic place. That's the best I can do, but I love the album more than anything.

It reminds me of the jewish exiles or gentiles. Then he moves, lives, sins, suffers, wanders off path, & starts to suffer as a mistake. Then he realizes all the mistakes he's made and misses home, with god and confesses his sins and turns back to god, whose always kept his eye on him. Like the prodigal son. For christians, jews, others seeking who are suffering, hitting dead ends, and trying to get back on track.
Of course them there's the woman?!? America, europe could be today's babylon or anyone anywhere who feels lost.
