Friday night I'm going nowhere
All the lights are changing green to red
Turning over TV stations
Situations running through my head
Well looking back through time
You know it's clear that I've been blind
I've been a fool
To open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule

Saturday I'm running wild
And all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I'm pushing
Chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here
You know I'm seeing it so clear
I've been afraid
Show you how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I've made

If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, Babylon, Babylon

Sunday all the lights of London
Shining, Sky is fading red to blue
I'm kicking through the Autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I'm feeling so alone
I can't believe
Climbing on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
In front of me

If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, Babylon, Babylon, Babylon, Babylon

Well... I am guessing that he is talking about a man who has been so in love, but that was open to all the gossip around their relationship that probably was the reason for their breaking up (open up for all that jealousy). For this guy, his momentary lapse of reason starts on a friday since in most cases in our society the life begings on fridays (party any one), however he is so down for not having her that he is ready to embrace drugs or at least contemplating the option (lights changing red to green); this guy is just saying that he is running away from reality when he says that he is turning tv stations (just to divert his real worries at present time). Saturday, he is lost and went over to use drugs, provably because he can handle it any more, the idea of not having her next to him, the woman he loves. He expreses his open feelings by saying that he was sure that he really love her and is asking her to reconsider if she wants, and if she want to give it another try to their relationship than just "come and get it". On sunday, the day for resting (in many societies), he has finally come down to the understanding that he just have to let it go. However he knows that his life from this point on will be filled with regrets, sorrow and sadness for having lost his love one; knowing that she has finally moved on and wondering who will be the one next to her (and wondering where it is you might be going to), and deep inside he knows she will never be coming back to him again, but wishing or hoping that some day she might (turning around to see you smiling there in front of me). My interpretation of this song is that it is linked to a book called the secret. If you read the book it tells of how you can get everything you want just by picturing it in your mind like a tv station:

"turning over tv stations, situations running through my head,"

It also says that if you think negatively about things all the time you always seem to find bad things happen - it is simply because you are thinking it. So, why not think positive thoughts and let positive things happen to you:

    "well looking back through time
You know it's clear that i've been blind
    I've been a fool
    To open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule"

The ancient babylonians and their great prosperity have been well documented by scholars. Known for creating one of the seven wonders of the world, the hanging gardens of babylon. Through their understanding and application of the laws of the universe, they became one of the most wealthiest races in history.

This book, the secret, basically tells you that if you want anything you just have to go get it, no matter what! I believe that when david gray wrote this, he truly believed that he could have anything he wanted, he just needed to feel that belief that he could have it:

    "if you want it
    Come and get it
    Crying out loud
    The love that i was
    Giving you was
    Never in doubt
    Let go your heart
    Let go your head
    And feel it now
    Let go your heart
    Let go your head
    And feel it now
    Babylon, babylon, babylon"

A man who sees that his relationship had degenerated because of himself. Finally sees clearly and his world becomes positive. Now he is asking for forgiveness, but she is only back to pick up her toaster and cell phone charger. Just move on david and don't make the same mistake again. Great song!

Babylon is really babble-on, as in "i don't really know what to say at this part of the song, so i will just babble-on".

I really wish i knew the real meaning of babylon. It's one of my all time favorites. Especially when performed by a guy named gill torres who performs weekly at luau larry's on catalina island (off the coast of long beach, ca). David gray should hear him sing it. No one does is better!
