The way we're living makes no sense
Take me back to the age of innocence
I wanna go back then
Take me back to the age of innocence
Back to the age of innocence

When flaws were fixed by laws and books
When singers wrote songs instead of hooks
When the value wasn't in the price
When the fight for life was in the civil rights

When we couldn't live life through a screen
When everything you knew was as good as it seems
When the only worry was the concept of sin
When did it begin?

I wonder if I could,
Go back to old Hollywood
When presidents dropped blonde bombshells
Instead of creating the perfect hell

The way we're living makes no sense
Take me back to the age of innocence
I wanna go back then
Take me back to the age of innocence
Back to the age of innocence

When pharmaceuticals were there to make life beautiful
When the way that we were born was more than suitable
When everybody thought they could make a difference
And you couldn't get your fix within an instance

I wonder if I could,
Go back to old Hollywood
When presidents dropped blonde bombshells
Instead of creating the perfect hell

The way we're living makes no sense
Take me back to the age of innocence
I wanna go back then
Take me back to the age of innocence
Back to the age of innocence

I wanna get older, don't fight my age
Take me back to those simpler days
I wonder how it all happened
I wanna get older, don't fight my age
Don't wanna be the prey of a scalpel's blade
Now please tell me, please tell me, whatever happened?
What ever happened? Happened?

"when singers wrote songs instead of hooks" how true. so many songs out there with very simple lyrics that dont mean anything, but people like the songs because they're "catchy"

I think this songs has at least two major themes. one is a like more minor, and clearly stated "when singer wrote songs instead of hooks". the message there is pretty obvious, and if you don't know what i mean listen to any radio station that plays that mainstream ( miley, akon etc.) garbage. and the second theme, when he said "I wanna get older don't fight my age, don't wanna be the prey of a scalpels blade" he is saying he does not want plastic surgery to make him younger looking "fight his age". those are really only two themes in a song that paints a clear and accurate picture of modern society. you could find dozens of them in this song its truly brilliant.

Well thanks captain obvious. The lyrics only say, more than once should I add, "Take me back to the age of innocence."
If you were anymore deep, you'd be your own ocean.

It's about how he wishes he could go back to the days when life was more innocent, because today's world is out of control.
