Everyone has their own impressions of any and every song written. The meanings are different for each person. For me, personally, my opened the moment I heard the man I have been in love with since high school, who still makes me tremble at even the thought of being in his arms, has always been in love with me. The madness is the craving to be with him (knowing we are soul mates and the craziness it causes us knowing we are in separate worlds where we have made commitments to others that we can't break right now), the enslaving of hope is the hope that we will, at some point and time, will have another chance to be together. This is a very good song. It is a good progression and story that could have been a whole album/cd or hour long. For me, a man who is 31 and single, the song has more meaning then in high school when I first heard it. I think the song is about the realization of a life outside that bag of water we call our body and outside that habitat we call home. It is up to us to go and get it. "Windows open wide" No worries about the past, we have something in each of us that pushes us into the messy world. the world is both within us -a part of us-, and we in it. Hey Twilightfishy! Love the song too. For me, this song at this particular time makes me think of my youngest baby son (and my other loved ones) and fear for them in this world.
