Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.
I love my love and well she knows,
I love the ground, whereon she goes,
I wish the day, it soon would come,
When she & I could be as one. [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/christy_moore/black_is_the_colour.html ]
Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.
I go to the Clyde and I mourn and weep,
For satisfied, I ne'er can be,
I write her a letter, just a few short lines,
And suffer death, a thousand times.
(Guitar)
Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.

It is a powerful song of love. A man is in love with a woman who will never love him and they shall never be together, he worships everything about her even the ground she walks on and would die for her. A truly beautiful song...

It is the cry and mourning of someone who has been separated from the one he loves and cannot be with her. He wants to go to the land where she stands and yearns for that land and her. He feels as though he is dead without her.
