Christy Moore – Black Is The Colour lyrics

Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.

I love my love and well she knows,
I love the ground, whereon she goes,
I wish the day, it soon would come,
When she & I could be as one.

Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.

I go to the Clyde and I mourn and weep,
And satisfied, I never can be,
And the I write her a letter, just a few short lines,
And suffer death, a thousand times.

(Guitar)

Black is the colour of my true love's hair,
Her lips are like some roses fair,
She's the sweetest smile, And the gentlest hands,
I love the ground, Whereon she stands.

He knows he can't be with the woman he adores and never will be. He knows this as the lyrics say satisfied I never can be. He probably doesn't even give her the letter, thy is if she's still alive. If shes dead he's in denial she's dead, other wise it's just not happening between them. Heaps of interpretations can be made from this song that's the great thing about good music, simple but meaningful lyrics. Could listen to this song continuously and have done pretty much dice hearing it about 6 months ago for the first time. Awesome song which resonates through you when christy moore sings it. So glad I've heard the song!

Hey, seems to me like a man, whom the woman he loves either dies or refused him her hand in marriage! So sadly he gets stuck in a moment he can't get out of, he can't accept this, so he goes to the clyde to take matters into his own hands, but before he does he writes her the note.?
Suicide is not as the song says "painless" loved ones are surely in agony for the rest of they're lives.!. . So don't even consider it as an option. . The moment will pass, and a brighter day will come. . Joey.

This song for me is a man has falling in love with a married woman. She also has fallen in love with him but they can't have each other in marriage. She still loves the man she married. The woman has black hair. She has a sweet smile. Her kiss is sealed with love.she took the man by the hand and showed him a new life. They both love each other. So he goes to the Clyde goes into a deep depression so he writes her a litter but never gives it to her. He doesn't want to end with her. The only way they can be together is work together and be friends. So what work will they do only God knows!!!
