[Verse 1]
I can hold my breath
I can bite my tongue
I can stay awake for days
If that's what you want

Be your number one
I can fake a smile
I can force a laugh
I can dance and play the part
If that's what you ask
Give you all I am

I can do it
I can do it
I can do it

[Chorus]
But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down

I'm only human
And I crash and I break down

Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart

I'm only human, yeah

[Verse 2]
I can turn it on
Be a good machine

I can hold the weight of worlds
If that's what you need
Be your everything

I can do it
I can do it
I'll get through it

[Chorus]
But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down

I'm only human
And I crash and I break down

Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
I'm only human, yeah

[Bridge]
I'm only human
I'm only human
Just a little human

I can take so much
Until I've had enough

[Chorus]
‘Cause I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
‘Cause I'm only human, yeah

This song reflects how frustrated a person can feel, after all that is being done and compromised in the name of love, yet. Nothing is enough. This is also to remind us, that after all that can be done, we are only human - who are imperfect. Thus, we need to accept this but give the most of what we have.

This song means a lot to me because I was getting bullied for a long time and the phrase "only human" was like everyone has their flaws so popularity is so stupid I hate it and I wish people would stop ranking who's the most popular people who are reading this you have a chance to stand up against bullying. That girl you just tripped gets abused at home, that boy you called a cry baby his mom is dying and only has a week left to live, that girl you just made fun of because she has sensitive feelings gets raped at home. And more hope you guys all enjoy this song and when you think of bullying think of this poem love this song I wish I could meet Christina Perri in real life she is my idol love yall people out there.

I think this song is about putting on a fake smile. They expect you to be strong all the time. And then they hate you when you break. It's also about her partner maybe expecting her to hide the things he does to her, and she still loves him even though he does these things. It accentuates the fact that we are only human and when we fall our heart bleeds and cries. When we crash and break, people judge us because they feel we haven't had enough yet. So some people just give us too much and we're forced to smile and laugh it off, even if it stings and burns. The words in our heads sting and burn and then fade into the knives in our hearts. When they build you up they basically dangle a carrot in front of you when you're starving and then yank it out of reach. Then they laugh because you can't get it. But I'm human. I play a constant game of pretend. Pretending to be happy and strong. When inside I'm depressed and broken. And eventually the machines in us break and so do we. That's what this song is about, in my personal opinion.

This song is telling a story of a "human" who is so vulnerable to the one they love and that they are tired of doing things to them, the song also emphasizes the idea of being imperfect and breakable, christina emphasized that point when she kept on repeating "i'm only human". Mn

I agree that this song is about how we can only do so much and sometimes we need to be forgiven. I agree that if we want to be forgiven we should turn towards God and for those of you who don't believe in God you need to wake and see the evidence we have in the bible.
