So long boy you can take my place, got my papers I've got my pay
So pack my bags and I'll be on my way to yellow river
Put my guns down the war is won
Fill my glass high the time has come
I'm going back to the place that I love yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it's the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you'll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/christie/yellow_river.html ]
Cannon fire lingers in my mind I'm so glad that I'm still alive
And I've been gone for such a long time from yellow river
I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool
And I remember the girl that I knew from yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it's the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you'll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it's the place I love

When i first heard this song, the thai singer was saying "jello leeber. " i had no idea what the song was about until i came home and bought the canadian version. This was one of three songs that were required at the o club. Our gunship anthem "ghost riders in the sky" and "we've gotta get outa this place" were the other two.
This is a vietnam era song and conveys the sentiment of any serviceman who did his tour there who was going home to the girl he loved and the land he loved. The verse "i'm so glad that i'm still alive" is a reference to all our fallen comrades in arms who didn't make it. However you do need to correct the lyrics the second time he sings about sleeping underneath the moon. He already talked about the girl he knew there and the second time the lyric is sung, he says tomorrow night you'll find "us" sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river.
