Chevelle – Send The Pain Below lyrics
I liked, Having hurt
So send the pain below
Where I need it
You used to beg me
To take
Care of things
And smile at the thoughts
Of me failing.

But long before
Having hurt
I'd send the pain below
I'd send the pain below

Much like suffocating
Much like suffocating
Much like suffocating (I'd send the pain below)
Much like suffocating (I'd send the pain below)

You used run me away
All while laughing
Then cry about that fact
Til my returns

But long before
Having hurt
I'd send the pain below
I'd send the pain below
Much like suffocating
Much like suffocating
Much like suffocating (I'd send the pain below)
Much like suffocating (I'd send the pain below)
Much like suffocating!

I can't feel my chest (chest, chest)
Anymore
Drop down
Cause I am
I can't feel my chest (chest, chest)
Drop down!

I liked
Having hurt
So send the pain below
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating)
I liked having hurt
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating)
So send the pain below
(Much like suffocating), So send the pain below (Much like suffocating)
So send the pain below.

To me. It reminds me of how we keep our deepest feelings to ourselves, until someone badgers us over and over to be real and say what we really feel. That eventually reveals all our demons and fears, only to have the same person ask you what is wrong with you and demands that you act right or say goodbye. Why can't they just let us smile and say we are happy to see them? Why insist on dragging up our worst fears, then criticising us for our personal struggles?!

I can relate to this song because by saying "send the pain below", he's saying that he's pushing the fact that he's so hurt away. He's hiding it from everyone, and trying to keep it from himself. And the "much like suffocating" is saying, it's like he can't breathe anymore, when he has to face this pain. I do this a lot, and it is like suffocating. You can't brethe, and no matter what, tears come, and you're lost. There's nothing there to save you, not in the darkness that's surrounding every thought and action.

The singer has deep pain, from childhood I'm guessing. He learned how to push that pain down in order to be strong. Could have been his father causing mental/physical pain. Such repetition caused him to accept that pain as a way of life and welcomed it because he knew it well and began to like it because he knew he could deal with it, by pushing it down, because initially that kind of pain chokes us as children, thinking you will die. He welcomes it as an adult because its familiar to him and he can push it down where he knows he can handle it and go on. Sadly, he can never get rid of that "pain below".

I think that the one singing the song is talking to himself, or thinking, because his love or lover has left a note saying possibly something along like lines of her leaving. His sister must have called and told him that the girl is coming, or came. The note obviusly says so, also. Possibly, they had s* on his bed, and she left before he woke up. He's sad because she left? And he can't breathe because of that? Hey, I'm just guessing on what I think it is. Anyways, the man knows he can't look at the chick the same anymore, because of whatever it is she did. He wants to "wake up", or in other words, see the sun, you could say. He also wants to take away the feelings he had for her, trash those, and the depressing ones, too. Seems good to him, right? He's gonna break down (that was easy to tell), and he does not care if she shows up and sees him crying, etc. And he's gonna keep screaming, asking, saying, thinking, etc. "Am I alone in here?" That's what I think anyways.
