People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
Cause I get stoned in the mornin, get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my ole blue tick hound I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money but I've damn sure got it made
Chorus:
And I ain't askin' nobody for nothing
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/charlie_daniels/long_haired_country_boy.html ]
Preacher man talkin' on the radio, puttin' down the rock and roll
He wants me to send a donation cause he's worried about my soul
He said Jesus walked on the water and I know that it's true
But sometimes I think that preacher man might do a little walkin', too
Chorus
Poor girl wants to marry and the rich girl wants to flirt
Rich man goes to college and the poor man goes to work
A drunkard wants another drink of wine and the politician wants a vote
I don't want much of nothing at all but I will take another toke

It's 2011 and things have changed. I just saw c. D. At the vermont state fair. Istead of singing "take another toke" he sang "rope another goat". My wife and i just stared at each other in disbelief and we both repeated the phrase. Rope another goat!?
From the original 1975 version, the meaning is a freedom that we knew during that time. My first and only love, keith, sang "long haired country boy" on the school bus. He had beautiful long hair, and was an original bad boy rebel with a good and kind heart. He was "who he was" and made no apologies. I loved him with all of my being, and still do. This song encompassed the essence of keith and everytime i hear it, or think of it, he is with me. Once in a generation a song comes along, and for us, this one was it. Thank you charlie daniels, he loved your song, and so do i.
