Well I'm so tired of cryin' but I'm out on the road again - I'm on the road again.
Well I'm so tired of cryin' but I'm out on the road again - I'm on the road again.
I ain't got no woman just to call my special friend

You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow - in the rain and snow.
You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow - in the rain and snow.
I didn't have no fairo, not even no place to go.

And my dear mother left me when I was quite young - when I was quite young.
And my dear mother left me when I was quite young - when I was quite young.
She said "Lord have mercy on my wicked son."

--- Break ---

Take a hint from me mama please don't you cry no more - don't you cry no more.
Take a hint from me mama please don't you cry no more - don't you cry no more.
Cause it's soon one morning down the road I'm gone.

But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road - all by myself.
But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road - all by myself.
I can't carry you baby, gonna carry somebody else.

Presumably, he's talkin about the lonliness of touring or maybe the road is a metaphor for his difficult life? I don't know... Who the hell am i?

I love this song. I always listen to it multiple times in row.

Imho: it's got dark sound and lyrics talking about desperation for me. Every time i listen to the song, i imagine desperate man after committing some murder and now he's on the run, driving he's car through some schorched desert on the south of usa and his gun is on the passenger's seat next to him. It would be great black and white music video :-) awful cliche, but pretty impressive :-)

The second stanza of lyrics... "i'm going to leave the city... " is from the song "going up the country" also recorded by canned heat.
