there's something happinin here
what it is aint exactly clear
theres a man with a gun over there
tellin me i got to beware

i think it's time we stop, children
what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

there's battle lines being drawn
nobody's right if everybody's wrong
young people speakin there minds
getting so much resistance far behind

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

what a field day for the heat
a thousand people in the street
singing songs that they're carrying signs
mostly say hurray for our side

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

Par-a-noia strikes deep
into your life it will creep
it starts when your always afraid
step out of line the man come and take you away

we better stop
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's going down x4

This song was written in the 1870's and is clearly a reference to the kent state murders. It is sad and disgusting that the generation that was so deeply affected by this incident are now the generation that are ordering police to attack protestors today. It is unlikely that if that same chain of events happened today, it would end in the same way.

Although this song was written, i believe in the 60's, it is every bit as timely today. When politics in our country become as divisive as they were in the 60's and they certainly are now it's time to shut out the distractions and take a good look at why politicians prefer unrest to easy times. It usually has to do with who has the power and who wants it.

I dug out some old lp albums last week and was playing them on my old phonograph record player. Scratches and all. My 28 year son was visiting and when he came in the room he said.
(i kid you not), "hey dad, stop, what's that song? ".
I replied, "no its stop, hey what's that sound, by buffalo springfield. He wanted a copy. The song is indeed timeless.
