Bruce Springsteen – Secret Garden lyrics

Shell let you in her house
If you come knockin late at night
Shell let you in her mouth
If the words you say are right
If you pay the price
Shell let you deep inside
But there's a secret garden she hides

Shell let you in her car
To go drivin round
Shell let you into the parts of herself
Thatll bring you down
Shell let you in her heart
If you got a hammer and a vise
But into her secret garden, don't think twice

Youve gone a million miles
How fard you get
To that place where you can't remember
And you can't forget

Shell lead you down a path
Therell be tenderness in the air
Shell let you come just far enough
So you know she's really there
Shell look at you and smile
And her eyes will say
Shes got a secret garden
Where everything you want
Where everything you need
Will always stay
A million miles away

My interpretation of this song is that, a woman can love a man with all her heart and soul and be so giving of her self, yet there is something mysterious about her that, something that she holds dear and precious to her heart that is not easily discovered by mere words, something that may take a lifetime to discover but with patience the right man can earn the key to this secret garden.

This song is a description of a relationship, summed up in the last few lines "where everything you want, where everything you need, will always stay, a million miles away". In other words, everything you need and want will always be out of reach. I've looked around at a few sites, and this also has come to light: the majority of women writing their interpretation say this is a love song, "so beautiful". The guys. Get it. Why do women feel so comfortable with a love of a woman being described as one in which the others needs and wants will always unmet, and out of reach. Love, indeed. Hmmm.
