Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by
You never get to stop and open your eyes
One day you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This vibrant skin -- this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime --
But nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight --
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
And we're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Toronto September 1983

Aids: The 80's. This was a very scary time for all of us. I remember in the late 80's after my divorce, I thought. What if my ex-wife had been with someone. So I did what everyone was doing. I went to the board of health and, scared as hell, I gave them some of my blood. Of course you had to wait forever back then. A week, maybe two. But then you would go in and sit down with a nurse and she would look you in the eye and say negative or positive. It made me very aware of what I was getting into, a new era. A very dangerous time to be a lover. The 60's were dead.

Gosh... If you are in love... It's always a dangerous time. Is there any other reason to be here other than love... Not just romantic but love... He wrote this in 1983 and so i am imagining that his notion of dangerous time was the cold war and our ability to be blowing this mudball up in 90 minutes with capacity to do this 14 times over... Today prolifers argue legitimate rape and take away the freedoms of a woman's right to choose under any circumstance... Even rape? While the same prolifers would vote yes to use disposable people as collateral damage while looking for wmd's as if they were easter eggs in innocent peoples houses... I suppose rape and murder are "legitimate" then, and a child born of rape is "legitimate" not an ilegitimate child, as out of wedlock... When it's due to rape! But isn't having a lover always a dangerous time? The loss of the lover for a feeling person is so dark... I stay away... I stay away... And in "these times" he write in 1983 ~ 30 years later... Who knows what tomorrow may bring... The times are not fit for match making at this time... Except for those who remain in a bubble. Most men i know are not willing to commit because they don't know how they will support themselves, much less a lover... Romantic love for those who are not "free" to do so... I stay away i stay away... Maybe he speaks of this. Love like the wind isn't something you can catch in a box. People try to set their love in stone, when at best they can do is exchange a stone in a setting. If you are talking about romantic love dear bruce... It is always a dangerous time. I love your music! I am your music lover!
