When I find myself watching the time
I never think about all the funny things you said
I feel like it's dead
Where is it leading me now
I turn around in the still of the room
Knowing this is when I'm gonna make my move
Can't wait any longer
And I'm feeling stronger but oh
Just as I walk through the door
I can feel your emotion
It's pullin' me back
Back to love you
I know I'm caught up in the middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he plays piano in the dark [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/brenda_russell/piano_in_the_dark.html ]
He holds me close like a thief of the heart
He plays a melody
Born to tear me all apart
The silence is broken
And no words are spoken but oh
Just as I walk through the door
I can feel your emotion
It's pullin' me back
Back to love you
I know I'm caught up in the middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he plays piano in the dark
The silence is broken
And no words are spoken but oh
Just as I walk through the door
I can feel your emotion
It's pullin' me back
Back to love you
I know I'm caught up in the middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he plays piano in the dark
When i finally let go of my emotion, i remembered this song. It is always so painful to accept the fact that relationships end. I hope my husband will come to realize that even when he plays the piano in the dark, there're no words or rhymes to be uttered anymore.

Unstable emotion.. Perhaps she wanted to let go of the emotion but somethin' inside is stopping her.

Addressing comment made march 20, 2:37am. I totally agree with you. As i read through the lyrics and the other posts, i could see where each of you were coming from. But, there was just something missing. I couldn't get to the emotional connection of this song. As i read through your post, it hit me like a ton of bricks! She's still in love but trying to deny it. This so she can survive the pain of a broken releationship and try to move on. Though he has another woman on the side that he feels great passion for, he still has a strong emotional attachment which gives the first woman hope their relationship can be salvaged. Then he's gone again. The feelings of love die again, along with a little piece of her.
I may be reading into this a bit. I'm still healing myself after breaking up with my wife of 23 years. In the end, it was her playing the piano in the dark and me trying to hold on to... Nothing.

The strong tension between love and letting go. The rawness of emotions and while you meant to let go, you feel your lover's passion pulling you back and it gets harder and harder to decide. Mind and heart battle.

Piano in the dark is a metaphor for passionate emotions that untimately lead nowhere. When he not around she feels dead no emotion and feels strong enough to leave mentally but when they are together those passionate emotions pull her back to love him (sexually) but those funny times are leading her nowhere now but waiting and lonely and dead.

A three way relationship her him and another. When they are together they have fun and she feels alive but she feels so empty now alone waiting knowing he is being drawn back to another. She knows she is ot a person who can be in a 3 way she cry only little when thinks of letting go. Caught in the middle. Sex is the piano he plays in the dark. Silence is broken because they both know that this cant go on he in love with the other but he dose care deeply for her. , that emotion pulls her back to love him. Piano in the dark are also the unspoken emotion. Things have changed they both know it. So she moving on and crys just a little

Falling in love with a musician and letting the music carry your heart away... A love that never lets you go...

I lived this song... One summery august night he played the piano in the dark, all night long... I remember the moonlight coming through the windows and the sheers fluttering in the breeze... It was a peaceful, surreal feeling
