(Ronnie Scott/ Steve Wolfe)
Producers for Bonnie: David Mackay, Ronnie Scott, Steve Wolfe

It's a heartache, nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late, hits you when you're down
It's a fools' game, nothing but a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain, feeling like a clown

It's a heartache, nothing but a heartache
Love him 'till your arms break, then he'll let you down
It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone as much as I depended on you

Oh, it's heartache, nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late, hits you when you're down
It's a fool's game, nothing but a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain, feeling like a clown

It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone as much as I depended on you
Oh, it's a heartache, nothing but a heartache
You love him 'till your arms break, then he'll let you down
It's a fool's game, nothing but a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain, feeling like a clown

Yeah I love this tune, also. Floyd cramer did an excellent rendition of it on his lp record album "super hits".
As for the message’ s meaning, I think it refers to the general subject of love, and conveys that for a lot of people, love is just a painful series of one-sided efforts and heartbreaking failures, where one person tries his absolute best and hardest to love and please his partner, but the other person doesn’ t seem to notice or care, and then eventually he just dumps the devoted lover and moves on to hurt someone new.
