Bobby mcferrin is a very talented lyricist who wrote many songs throughout his lifetime. Anyone who turns on the car radio and flips to a station with a bobby mcferrin song playing will be hooked. One very popular song that he wrote was “don’t worry, be happy”. The message of this song is that people should not worry about the little things in life, and they should just be happy. This song relates to me because i try my hardest to be worry free, i am always happy, and i always have a smile on my face.

Being worry free is a very good characteristic that i try to integrate into my everyday life. “in every life we have some trouble but when you worry you make it double” (mcferrin). This line is what inspired me to become worry free, so i would not make my troubles double. Having a worry free characteristic is an important aspect in my life because if i were to worry all the time, i would not have an enjoyable life. If i were to get a bad grade on a test, i would realize i got a bad grade, and not let it bring me down. Instead, i would tell myself that i would try harder for the next test and raise my grade. For me, thinking positively helps me bring the “worry” down. If i had a chance to reach out to many people, i would tell them that they should try to not worry so much, and just be happy.

In my thirteen years of life, i have come to realize that i like being happy. I have had very few times in my life where i was upset. During those times, all i wanted was to be happy again. Many times throughout the song mcferrin wrote, “be happy”, so i try my hardest to be so. “ain’t got no place to lay your head/somebody came and took your bed/but don’t worry, be happy” (mcferrin). This quote is an example of how bobby mcferrin was always happy and positive. He would not write “be happy” if he was not happy himself. Also, if you have ever listened to this song before, you would know that this song has a very fun, and upbeat tune. That goes to show that he a very fun and upbeat person himself. Having this personality must have paid off because today, he is very well-known.

“put a smile on your face/don’t bring everyone down like this” (mcferrin). From past experiences, i have learned that when i have a frown, other people have frowns. It is like yawning, when one person yawns, another yawns, the another. This cycle is like a chain, it goes from one person to the next. My mom always tells me that she hates seeing me upset, and i hate being upset myself. Have you ever walked into a room and the mood was so low it felt awkward? That is what could happen if one person is unhappy. The low spirit of that one person, brings down the spirit of everyone else. I would hate to be the cause of a terrible i am better off with a smile, and so are most people, so that is why i made the decision to put a smile on my face even if i am not one-hundred percent happy with what may have happened earlier.
