Blackmore's Night – Catherine Howard's Fate lyrics

Oh, to my dearest ruler and lord
Merciful husband
Nobelest of king...
Your heart of gold has long since tarnished
In my champer
What will the morning bring?
What it my heart that doth betray me
Cause I loved more than one man?
Is it true your wear a wounded spirit?
Pray let me mend it and make our love anew...

Allow me to be your humple servant
Once again, as before...
Are you like the others, so quick to judge
And for this the queen must fall
What is my heart that doth betray me
Cause I loved more than one man?
Truth within the writings of a letter
Signed and sealed poor Catherine Howards fate...
Truth within the writings of a letter
Signed and sealed poor Catherine Howards fate...

    MacBeth-TheMusical
The song tells the story of the Queen Catherine Howard who was the fifth wife of King Henry the VIII. The Queen's Marriage to Henry was short lived as she was executed via decapitation in the charges of Adultery and Unchastity, charges (whether True or Not) where fueled by her past indiscretions during her youth and by Protestant-leaning Archbishop Thomas Cranmer who was not happy about the fact that Catherine was a Catholic. The Letters mentioned either mean the Order of Execution signed by King Henry or The Letters Katherine is said to have sent to her Alleged Lover Thomas Culpepper, who was also killed on the block.
