Heaven, heaven's bodies
Whirl around me
Make me wonder
And they say back then our universe
Was an empty sea
Until a silver fox
And her cunning mate began to sing
A song that became the world we know
Heaven, heaven's bodies
Whirl around me
Make me wonder
And they say back then our universe was a cold black egg
Until the god inside burst out
And from it's shattered shell
He made what became the world we know [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/bjork/cosmogony.html ]
Heaven, heaven's bodies
Whirl around me,
Make me wonder
And they say back then our universe was an endless land
Until our ancestors woke up
And before they went back to sleep
They carved it up into the world we know
Heaven, heaven's bodies
Whirl around me,
Make me wonder
They say back then our universe wasn't even there
Until a sudden bang
And then there was light, was sound, was matter
And it all became the world we know
Heaven, heaven's bodies
Whirl around me and dance eternal
"Cosmogony" is a beautiful ballad that appears on Bjork's full-length album Biophilia. It consists of not much more than Bjork emoting over a bed of swelling and pulsating horns and cymbals, and that's just fine

It's the story of life as many eastern traditions see it; filled with respect for ancestors and a sense of mythical wonder that hides the fact it's the most awkward song ever live.

Contemplation, abstraction, time to stop and observe. Everything that our world needs – no matter how it’s been created.

We were awake for a time and then we went back to sleep... That's why things are the way they are: we've buried our heads under the blankets.

For all the different beliefs and myths about how the universe and our world were created, it doesn't matter how, or when. It matters only that it was, and is, and that we be party to the eternal dance. So choose the belief or myth you like best - and dance.

Cosmogony is a theory that attempts to explain the origins of the universe and human existence, and this haunting ballad finds bjork singing about different traditions of how the universe came to be. Each verse is a separate creation story, from the "silver fox" of the native american miwoks who sung the world into existence to the big bang theory.
