Day after day alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.
Well on his way his head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking percetly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
And he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill...
Nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do.
And he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill... [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/beatles/the_fool_on_the_hill.html ]
Everybody is saying "this guy is nuts, he's a fool. All he does is sit on that hill and smile. He doesn't even have anything to smile about. All he does is sit on a hill. Like a fool! " and are so sure of themselves. But the 'fool' knows better, because he knows they are the fools. They are the ones that are to worried, busy about other things that they cant see the beauty of the sunset, the stillness of the nature surrounding them, the world as only a 'fool' could see. They don't ask why he sits on the hill and smiles, because 'they know what he wants to do'. They know. They don't ask about what he knows and his life and why he doesn't care. They only look at him and see some goofy, crazy, fool ignoring them and their apparent foolishness. So the man has alot to smile about, wouldn't you smile at a fool?
This song reminds me of a friend i have. Everyone says that he is so silly and treat him like an idiot. Like he doesn't have any feelings. People don't try to see what someone really is, they just try to pick out who is a fool and who can be classified as normal in their minds. They don't want to see the beauty of being different, and what the people who are different see and how they see it.
Everyone says "oh man, this guy is nuts, he's a fool. Don't listen, he's out of his mind, all he does is sit on this hill all day, smiling, but at what? He doesn't have anything to smile about, he's just a fool, he doesn't know anything. " but the 'fool' knows he isn't the fool, it's them, the people running around, talking about him. The ones that are to busy to look at the sunset, to look at the beauty of the world. To wonder why he's smiling. To ask why he's smiling, what he knows to keep smiling. They just say he is a fool, because he's different from them.
