The trophy that I made for us
In fur and gold
Got into the wrong pair of hands,
In truth was sold
They bought it for oh so much less
Than it was worth
And every man that touched it
Found a heaven on earth
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/bat_for_lashes/trophy.html ]
The queens and the court jesters
Clapped, adored
Their hearts swelled too
Overdrive and mercy soared
Mercy this and mercy that
Let justice prevail
But I just want my trophy back
It's not for sale
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Creatures of mercy
Shoot shoot
Shoot them down
And set me free
Creatures of mercy
Shoot shoot
Shoot them down
And set me free
When I got my trophy back
It took some time
To polish it, to gold from black
When I put it back inside
And locked the door
A trophy of mercy
Is a trophy no more
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Heaven is a feeling I get in your arms
Creatures of mercy
Shoot shoot
Shoot them down
And set me free
Creatures of mercy
Shoot shoot
Shoot them down
And set me free

Psht! Can't a song just be about a girl who made an object, it got stolen, and tokened as a symbol of mercy and justice, and whilst it brought harmony to the lands she was selfish and wanted it back? Presumably because how it got into that position of being a symbol of justice was unjustified, and subsequently was corrupt?
Sod everything being about love! Sometimes it's about a damn trophy!

My understanding of this song is rather gloomy. She loved a guy and was saving herself for him but then she got raped.

I think it means that she was in a relationship and it was heaven, until the guy had an affair with someone else. I think thats what she meant by the trophy got into the wrong pair of hands. I think when she says 'they brought it for so less than what it was worth', she talking about the woman he had the affair with.

Well,
i'm a guy who recently fell in love with a girl. Her heart shines towards me like a star...
Then i realised love is not something "for the taking"
I had to realise i need to equally love myself, every beeing on this planet and above all else her - my true love - without asking anything in return,
just as she did.
