I think ccas 4 has been the closest to the real meaning of this song... From his perspective it really makes sense... Moreover his personal views on the guy being in love with a small girl of young age is somehow reflected throughout the song... He specifically says little girl again and agin... And as ccas4 rightly pointed out.. " but you'r still young and out of line"... Good work, ccas4 :)

Alrighty lol so i looked up what that song ment... And this is what i got? ?this song is so awesome! Love the guy's voice. :)

Anyway, this song is basically about not giving up on love.

In the first verse, the guy is saying that what you see can be deceiving (your eyes can be your enemy); obviously, he's been hurt before by love. He says that love seems to be impossible to find nowadays (heaven's out of reach), but then again he isn't going to give up easily because love is worth the pain.

In the chorus, he's telling the girl that although he's lost faith in love, if she shows that she is true, then he will change for her (i will carry you home). He's asking her to be patient by "holding him down sweet and low" so that he can believe that there is such a thing as "love. "

In the second verse, the girl is asking him to tell her when his love for her will not change (rain is gonna fall, sun is gonna shine). She apparently has been disappointed by love also, but he says that love is worth the sacrifice.

In the bridge, he says that he is willing to give her everything if she is true. But he's still scared to fall in love because he doesn't want to end up like his mom, who died of a broken heart (same mistakes that put my mama in her grave). But in the end, anything is better than being alone.

Obviously, it's better to put your heart through the pain and hopefully find love than to not love and end up all alone!

? i believe this song is about an older guy who is in love with a younger girl. She is the love of his life, but he is scared to give is heart completely to her because she is too young and naive. (but you're still young and out of line). So basically she could do some severe damage to him if she wanted to just up and run. His mother put her heart out there and the heart break ended up taking her life. ( broken heart disease or possibly her being so depressed that she took her own life. ) so basically he is very much in love, but he knows the downward spiral he could take if he makes himself vulnerable to this young woman. Such a powerful and meaningful song!! ?

it clearly can't be about lovers as he talks about his mother passing away. His mother had diabetes and he wrote a song for her and the struggles that come along with diabetes.

For me this song means that the lovers somewhat promised each other that, someday, they will be together because they have too much love for each other just to let it go. It may take a long time but, hopefully, someday, they will be finally together, after the storm had passed. There's no way they will forget each other no matter what.

He's saying for the girl to keep him close, no matter what he does or where he goes.
