And if it's bad
Don't let it get you down, you can take it
And if it hurts
Don't let them see you cry, you can take it

Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head high

And if they stare
Just let them burn their eyes on you moving
And if they shout
Don't let them change a thing what you're doing

Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head high

It's about empowerment. Getting free to be who you are supposed to be, away from the judgmental eyes of others. Hold your head up. Keep your vision on your own dreams and go for it, even if there is a personal cost to not following the crowd. It's a great positive message!

Just saw the Zombies do this song in sf Aug, 2014 and they explained that between "Hold your head up" and the next "Hold your head up" the background singers are saying "Woooo-man". They said not many people realize that. Thought I would share. So refrain is: "Hold your head up, woman! Hold your head up, woman! Hold your head up, woman! Hold your head high".
