Oh the night makes you a star
And it holds you cold in its arms
You’re the one to whom nobody verses I love you
Unless you say it first
So you lie there holding your breath
And its strange how soon you forget
That you’re like stars
They only show up when it’s dark
Cause they don’t know their worth
And I think you need to stop following misery’s lead
Shine away shine away shine away
Isn’t it time you got over how fragile you are
We’re all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that’s who you are
And you’ve only begun to shine
There are times when the poets and pornstars align and
You won’t know who to believe in
Well that’s a good time to be leavin’
And the past knocks on your door
And throws stones at your window at 4 in the morning
Well maybe he thinks it’s romantic
He’s crazy but you knew that before
And I think you need to stop following misery’s lead
Shine away Shine away Shine away
Isn’t it time you got over how fragile you are
We’re all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that’s who you are
And you’ve only begun to shine
Yeah you’ve only begun to shine
Won’t you shine shine shine shine over shadow
Shine shine shine shine over shadow
Shine shine shine shine over
And I think you need to stop following misery’s lead
Shine away Shine away Shine away
Isn’t it time you got over how fragile you are
We’re all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that’s who you are
And you’ve only begun to shine
Yeah you’ve only begun to shine
Yeah you’ve only begun to shine
Yeah you’ve only begun to shine
I don't think she is telling us that some other guy will makes us worth something. We are already worth something! God made us that way. Why else would he send His Son to die for me if he didn't think I was highly valuable. It is like a precious jewel necklace. If I put it in a drawer, it is still valuable. If I wear it under my shirt, it is still valuable. If I wear it with an open neckline, it is not more or less valuable. It doesn't matter if people can't see it, or they can see it and don't recognize it's worth, it is still valuable because of how it was made. It's value is not dependent on the viewer's eye.
Anna Nalick sings to a girl who's unsure of letting go of her lover, so she advises her to get over him as he's holding her back. She also advises the girl to start worshipping herself because she's like a star who appears at the dark, unknowing her worth.
Sometimes we´re afraid to let a person go because we don't feel good enough and, in our heads floats the idea that there may not be any other who loves us. This song is ment to make us believe in our inner light, so we don't hold on to the past and, also to remind us that we're strong and have what it takes to come out of the dark.
Even when we feel lonely and lost, there's always somebody waiting for us to wake up and shine.
