Two poeple meet many many years ago, they know each other but not well, their lives share one paralell present that never crosses, the years pass by, each one goes their way never thinking that they will meet again, and they against all odds find eachother again, their circumstances are different, they meet in a moment where both are attached to a present relationship or a past relationship, timming is wrong but the connection happens there, unable to speak louder or make a fool of them selves they can only think that they wish they really knew eachother well ther first time they met, as things could have been different for them. Broken hearted there is always the hope of second chances with a happy ending, if this was meant to be then time will be on their side eventually.

It's about people who are defined by their pasts or the longtime roles they have assumed. Clinging to these definitions of themselves has made them unhappy and unfulfilled in the realities of their current situations. They meet someone who they believe could have fulfilled them if they had only met years before, when they were that "rock and roll" person. However, now they are too "far away" from that moment of opportunity. The "happy endings" are both about other people who manage to seize that opportunity at the right time before it passes them by and--quite possibly and more importantly--the realization of the people in the song that they are past that moment and definition of themselves so that they can now move on and embrace their current realities. The song's chance encounters are about both regret and revelation.
