To A Friend lyrics

i think at first its saying he's been struggling and wants to somehow get over it and escape his problem because things keep getting worse and small things become bigger problems. then he goes on to ask a friend the reason they are depressed or struggling and ask if they'll give up the fight and take the easy way out in escaping the pain(by suicide, drugs, or something along those lines.) then says in the chorus that he's changing his life for the better and will fix his problems to make himself happy and hopes that his friend(in my opinion a girl) will chose the same path. although through this process he himself is afriad to change or he is afraid to help the friend change. then he says "you shouldn't have to fight alone" meaning that they can just change with him and stop their misery. all though they have to change themselves and its all up to them because its their battle and nobody can fight it for them. then it goes on saying that he is being controlled by his fear and is having relationship issues that he is afriad to deal with or express and he is getting tired of living that way. then he goes on to express that he is afraid to live because he thinks people want to hurt him but he's not really sure if thats true. and goes on later to say that he knows its all in his head but can't truly make himself believe it. and theres nothing in the world that can heal his hurt.

either he wrote it to a friend or about his self, i think it means that the person is struguling with something and is in a hard or bad mind set so ther telling the person you need to fight alone but you shuldnt be going through that so you shuldnt even be fighting it and their telling the person to stop and change your life decissions
