Wow amazing lyrics and so many different meanings. This could just be a myth that they read and rewrote in song form but I think that they read it and related it to what they were dealing with
if you put these after the lyrics in apology it could be talking about the girls apology is finally breaking through his barriers and he is going back to her even though he knows it should be over and so does everyone around him but she has sucked him in and is watching him suffer without a care for him.

Hey x guy music videos aren't always exactly what the song means duh! To me this song is about someone who pursues their career or hobbies or something like that and leaves love for later. And now that it's to late they realize that love is the most important thing and regret it and the last verse talks about tricking a girl into love and she is more of a prize then an actual lover so he cuts the thread and releases her.
