When they were first together, when their relationship was still fresh, everything looked bright and happy and it felt as i this would go on forever. However, everything changed- the other person in the relationship showed a secret "dark side" that nobody had known about. The POV person is reminiscing over their own past naivety, thinking that it was too good to be true and that they should have suspected it.
