He sees somebody like himself suffering for a cause, and he's thinking "that's me, I'm gonna do that. I know why I'm here now". But then he second guesses himself. I love how the lyrics turn from "who I am" to "who am I", indicating a reversal of his emotions.

"Lisztomania" refers to the mass stardom Franz Liszt received as a classical composer. His concerts were sold out, and there were screaming women at his performances, so he was basically an 1800s pop star. This line seems to refer to Phoenix achieving musical success, and seeing their fame grow.

He could either be saying that he's not a gentleman, but he needs to change in order to be with this woman, or that he is a gentleman, but he doesn't feel that that's who he truly is, and he's "gotta be someone else".

With the "glory" of fame, there comes a serious price, which is the "gore". The reason they're "making headlines" is because if being famous were easy, everyone would do it. They're given this sort of honour, because they go through stuff nobody should have to go through to get where they are.

In Lorde's song "Royals," she says "we don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair". She's saying that her music is a new art form showing people that nobody cares about the lyrics to most songs, which are all about partying and "doing the do".

"You, you can't live like this", describes how he feels like she's almost deliberately messing with his heart and mind, and it's driving him insane.
