The song is about the time in Northern Ireland when it was basically embroiled in civil war. The reference to an "invisible sun" is meant to imply that there was hope, even in that situation. Interestingly, the concept of an "invisible sun" exists among some esoteric groups like the Rosicrucians. They say that there is a spiritual sun that provides energy to the souls of the spiritually awakened people just like the material sun provides energy to the Earth. I wonder if Sting ever read about anything like that before he wrote this song.
