I think this song is a man who is with a woman and after being together for a long time he realizes he loves being single! So the typical male he makes excuses that he not loving her the way he wanted to! He has left for whatever reason. Jail, rehab or perhaps was left alone while she is gone either way he gets a touch of freedom and wants out. At the end of the day he realizes she's the best of his choices. (poor woman) and stays with her but not wanting to he feels he can't escape her! This could be literal or a metaphor for drugs, jail or being a "star".

Perhaps she is feeling depressed! Wanting more than the same routine. Spilled her coffee broke her shoelace smeared the lipstick on her face- going through routine. I hear her playing that same old song. It most likely is her and her ex's "song". She plays it remembering much including lost youth and now is feeling the grass is greener. Perhaps thinking had she stayed with him she would feel excitement not the mediocrity that she is feeling now? Which her bad day seems to be depression. She is trying hard to do her day by day 9-5 smearing lipstick suggests anger without a care just a robotic routine. This has nothing to do with anyone but her. She perhaps says you would not understand because if literal he's a rock star if not she may not understand herself. Sad thinking she made the wrong choice but would be feeling the same most likely in either or actually no relationship.
