The use of the word "god" infers to people strong beliefs and faiths in god. Therefore the reference towards beliefs of god tells the audience he is putting his faith in god (or alternatively their love), that he would put so much faith in something that isn't even definitely real for their love because he wants it and believes in it so much. The lyric may also infer him praying, "oh god don't let me be the only one who says" saying he is once again putting his faith in an omnipresent abstract object and that he has faith in god, hoping that he isn't the only person who thinks this and that people would understand. This means he has doubts but is confessing and putting away all his doubts in his love/belief, making him believe in their love and that everything would turn out ok because he trusts it.
