apple hanging from a tree
I picked the ripest one
I still got the seed

The metaphors in this verse are profound. First off, she begins saying how she picked a man like you would pick an apple from a tree. She picked the ripest, or best, one, in reference to picking the best man. Although she picked the best man, she still ended up with the seed, which metaphorically means that he still had flaws that she didn't previously have in a man.
