A soldier can go off to war to fight and kill before before having experienced the world, still in essence a child, though considered an adult. To join the military is comparable to joining one in marriage. Family values or the family unit can be forward thinking of equal opportunity, but when it comes to releasing a child to the military or marrying off to a new family unit, the right to choose becomes questioned as being too young and incapable of making a choice one has the right to do, male or female.
