I can also understand where some people who don't like the song are coming from. For example, the Bible states that Vanity is a sin. One of the seven deadly sins. My studies on vanity and narcissism, the love and obsession of/with oneself and appearance have shown that there is in fact great danger in being too obsessed with yourself. You could ultimately lose who you really are as a human being. I believe in God, but regardless of what religion you believe in, you should never lose what the Almighty ___ put in you because sometimes you go too far and can't get it back. Yes, love yourself, but no one wants to be caught looking in the mirror in on-coming traffic!

I think this song is about embracing your inner monsters and stop avoiding them so that you may improve who you are as a person. Gaga has a strange, but creative way of saying things sometimes, that's just her and it's alright with me. When she says that Jesus is the new black I think she is referring to two things. First, the term black jesus is highly debated, but some accept it as cultural fact (hence the reference to fashion) not always accepted, but beautiful none the less Amen! Secondly, she might be saying that the dark is the new light since a great deal of fashion and culture is seemingly getting darker (i. E. Thierry & Mugler Fall 2011 Collection) not always accepted, but beautiful none the less Amen Fashion! My latter statement may be a bit of a stretch, but oh well. Go gaga! Respect eachother!

To me this song is about a declaritive person who regardless of who they are, be it monster, strong woman, or the like, wishes that they could be in their way without all the crap of society barring down on them. Also, it's okay for the out to be the in and specifically, each woman should define her own femmeninity regardless of what men may think. Fight for who you are!

Although this is one of my favorite songs on the album, it scares me because I am hoping that it is not sacreligious. Personally, I struggle with the meaning of this song because it's lyrical content is quite vulgar, but I expect that from Lady Gaga. To me, this song is about a person who's heart has been squished and stabbed many times, but even through the pain the person has learned to dance and rejoice, "that which is life" and forgive those who have hurt him/her. Also, after a bad relationship there may be "blood" on your hands, but you should wash it off and find new love because as the French lyrics translate to English, "You don't want to die alone." I guess to argue for Gaga's choice of lyrics, It is actually teaching a biblical virtue of forgiving others that treat you wrongly, which ultimately takes away the power the enemy has over you if you don't forgive them.
