In short, ooh to be ah is about fame, superficiality and people who think that the clothes do make the man. The song is strongly ironic, starting from its title, which succeeds in combining a seeming nonsense with a vibrant catchy sound, where the basic verb to be is framed in between two verbal sounds, such as ooh and ah, usually exclamations, which only end up by turning the verb of existence into a verb of possession: in this song, being is actually having, while not having means not to be.

Even though many people think that the title of this song is oh to be ah (and actually spell it consequently), it is in fact ooh to be ah, with two oo in the initial ooh. A curiosity about its actual origin: the song was originally entitled ooh to be A, so it already had a double oo at the beginning, but it lacked the final H in ah. It was Kajagoogoo's staff which suggested they change it to the current ooh to be ah (among the band's personnel was dj Paul Gambaccini, co-author of the guinness book of british hit singles, along with Tim and Jonathan Rice, and editor of Kajagoogoo's white feathers debut album songbook back in 1983). Enjoy the newly reformed Kajagoogoo now, and go see them soon in Bratislava, in the Czech Republic, in May, their live debut after 25 years! I really think that I shall go listen to them, either there, in Denmark at Esbjerg Festival, in June, or in Scotland, this next Summer, at Retrofest '08 (which is organized by their new manager, by the way, that is the man who succeeded in reuniting them, after an incredible 25-year long divorce!). By the way, kaja (i. E. Bassist nick beggs, keyboardist stuart neal, and guitarist steve askew only), as kajagoogoo, but without lead singer limahl, and drummer jez strode, already took part to Retrofest '07, where they opened the set and, among a number of songs from the crazy peoples right to speak album of 1985, and a string of hits, such as big apple, the lion's mouth, turn your back on me and, of course, too shy, presented their new single, after more than 20 years, called rocket boy (watch the exhilarating videoclip on YouTube - no hints, no clues: you simply have to watch it! It's really worth it, especially the tune itself!). Another new song they released, in an Eigthies compilation, is entitled tears, which is quite catchy. Both are featured on gone to the moon, the new album (chronologically, the fourth, generally, but the second as a trio) which should be released in 2008, only recorded in the studio by the three former kaja as kajagoogoo, but which will be promoted live by all 5 kajagoogoo (you know what I mean, I am not repeating all their names here and now, because I assume that the whole world ought to know them by now, if people have kept asking them to reunite for 25 years solid.!). Long live them this time - always and forever! P. S. Remeber: first live date in Bratislava, Czech Republic, on the 23rd of May 2008; second live date on the 14th of June 2008, in Denmark at Esbjerg Rock Festival in Denmark; third live date in Scotland at Retrofest on the 30th of August 2008. Come/go see them. I shall/will/must/have to! A huge fan of them all! Alex B. F. Alias tt Znju.
