I think the song is about a girl cheating on a guy but instead turning the song into just another cheating song; where it says, "Let's not get selfish, did you really think I'd let you kill this chorus?" it's basically turning the song into something more than just a cheating song.
Really brillant work and definitely a different turn than most songwriters would take. Kudos to the songwriter of this. ^_^.
