After the children were murdered they were stuffed in the animatronic suits. And their bodies were left to decay after they were stuffed into the suits.
Someone named Purple guy lured 5 children in the back room and KILLED THEM. Then in Night 4 of the first game "phone guy" (actually Purple guy) was lured into the back room which then had the Springtrap suit and became Springtrap.
