I think this song (with these original lyrics) came out in 1965. A contemporary song, "Eve of Destruction" by Barry Mcguire was on a similar theme. The Viet Nam War was just heating up. I was in high school and just fledging my liberal wings. This song, the one I mentioned, and Dylan's "like a Rolling Stone" were the most important songs of my awakening. "It's Good News Week" reflected the nightly body counts on the news. It's mention of famines and birth control got it quickly banned in mid-America. Idiot religion then and still does hold sway in this ignorance darkened country. I just sigh and go on to mention the science fiction realities touched upon in the bit of genius that this song is: Global warming, blind technology, and out-of-control capitalism. Great song.
